Aloysio Corrêa da Veiga takes office as president of the TST

Minister Aloysio Corrêa da Veiga took office this Thursday, 10th, as president of the Superior Labor Court (TST) and the Superior Council of Labor Justice (CSJT). Maurício José Delgado will be the new vice-president. The management will be in charge of the Labor Court until October 2026.

Aloysio will succeed Minister Lelio Bentes in the position. In his speech, Bentes highlighted that the internal election in the TST to choose the new management was unanimous, “by acclamation, an unprecedented and unprecedented fact in the 80 years of the Labor Court”. According to him, this signals the “cohesion and unity of TST members around the ideal of serving Brazilian society well”.

Still according to Bentes, the last two years were an “enriching and challenging period, during which we had the opportunity to consolidate the role of the Labor Court for citizenship”. The last year was marked by divergences between the Labor Court and the Federal Supreme Court (STF) in their understanding of outsourcing and the phenomenon of “pejotização”, a situation that led the Supreme Court to revoke several decisions made by labor judges who had recognized an employment relationship.

Present at the table of honor were the presidents of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Luís Roberto Barroso, of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), Cármen Lúcia, of the Superior Court of Justice (STJ), Herman Benjamin, of the Superior Military Court (STM) , Joseli Parente Camelo, and the Attorney General of the Republic Paulo Gonet.

Born in Petrópolis (RJ), Aloysio has been a TST minister since 2004. He joined the judiciary in 1981 as a substitute Labor judge in the 1st Region, Rio de Janeiro. In 1997, he became a judge at the Regional Labor Court of the 1st Region. He was also General Inspector of Labor between 2020 and 2022.

The minister usually advocates dialogue and conciliation to resolve labor disputes. As vice-president in the last administration, Aloysio was in charge of the Judicial Centers for Consensual Methods of Conflict Resolution (Cejuscs) of the TST and the Regional Labor Courts.

Delgado is from Lima Duarte (MG) and has been at the TST since 2007. He joined the bench in 1989 as a judge at the Regional Labor Court of the 3rd Region (MG).
