Bolsonaro evolves in a 'satisfactory way', with 'discreet improvement', doctor tells the STF

Former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) did not receive medical authorization to begin the active phase of physiotherapy on his right shoulder, around four weeks after undergoing surgery in the region. Reports sent to the Federal Supreme Court (STF) last week indicate that he has “significant limitation of movement in the right shoulder, joint stiffness and mobility restrictions in the region of the surgical scar”.

Assessment signed by physiotherapist Kleber Antônio Caiado de Freitas and orthopedist Alexandre Firmino states that the 71-year-old former president was conscious, oriented and collaborative during the assessment and care. Only one weekly physiotherapy session is authorized, focusing on passive mobilizations in the region.

In a separate report, cardiologist Brasil Ramos Caiado informed the STF that Bolsonaro did not present relevant complaints of shoulder pain, but “episodes of epigastric burning associated with gastroesophageal reflux”.

“Due to recurrent hiccups, he was maintained on previously adjusted high doses of specific medications and a strict low-acid diet,” said the doctor.

The document also informs that the former president started light and progressive aerobic exercises, keeps his blood pressure under control and continues to have chronic instability in his body balance, which led to the adoption of “preventive measures to reduce the risk of falls.”

Jair Bolsonaro was sentenced by the STF to 27 years and 3 months in prison for the crimes of armed criminal organization, coup d’état, attempted violent abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law, deterioration of listed property and qualified damage to the Union’s property.

He has been under humanitarian house arrest since the end of March, when he contracted bacterial bronchopneumonia. Previously, he was detained in the 19th Military Police Battalion of the Federal District, known as Papudinha.
