Bolsonaro mocked possible candidacy of Gusttavo Lima to presidency: ‘I don’t know’

Former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) reacted with irony when asked about a possible candidacy for the presidency of singer Gusttavo Lima in the 2026 elections. During an event in Sao Paulo on Tuesday, 11, he said he was unaware of the countryman and minimized his relevance in the political scene. “I don’t know (Gusttavo Lima). He is a singer, ”said the former president.

Bolsonaro had already ruled out the possibility of Gusttavo Lima to dispute the command of the Planalto, arguing that the singer would not yet be “mature” to the position. In an interview with CNN Brasil earlier this year, he recognized the artist’s popularity, but suggested that his candidacy go to the Senate.

“I talked to him a while ago, the next day his candidacy appeared to president. So I took my foot. He has age and popularity. It’s an excellent name for the Senate, but for the presidency, I don’t know if it’s mature yet, ”he said.

Since the beginning of the year, Gusttavo Lima has signaled interest in entering politics. Recently, he reinforced his support to the Governor of Goiás, Ronaldo Caiado (União Brasil), whom he called a “personal friend” but denied that he is getting politically involved at the moment.

The statement came after Caiado suggested a possible joint plate for the 2026 presidential election. Despite the speculation, the singer is not yet affiliated to any party. On the same day, Gusttavo Lima visited businessman Luciano Hang, owner of the Havan store chain, who publicly supported former President Jair Bolsonaro in the 2022 elections.
