“Brazil supports the renewal of the mandate of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Caracas and the Fact-Finding Mission in Venezuela. We believe that their work can contribute to improving the human rights situation in Venezuela, through dialogue and constructive cooperation”, he said.

“In recent months, Brazil has repeatedly encouraged the Venezuelan government to engage with the mandates of this Council,” he said.

According to him, Brazil thanks the group that articulated the resolution for accepting some of Itamaraty’s suggestions. “However, we consider that the resolution remains biased and unbalanced. Therefore, Brazil decided to abstain,” he said.

“A resolution that is excessively condemnatory and prescriptive will not contribute to improving conditions on the ground or promoting dialogue with all relevant parties. This, unfortunately, has been the case with the resolutions approved in item 4, in disregard of the very principles that should guide the work of this Council”, he said.

Itamaraty also denounced the sanctions against Caracas.

“Furthermore, it is impossible to discuss the human rights situation in Venezuela without taking into account the negative impact of unilateral coercive measures in the country, particularly with regard to access to food, medicine and medical equipment, which affects the realization of human rights human resources, especially for the most vulnerable segments of the population”, he stated.
