CPI will ask for uncle from Lucas Paquetá and two entrepreneurs

The Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) of the manipulation of games and sports bets will present a final report that requests the indictment of Bruno Tolentino, uncle of player Lucas Paquetá, in a scheme of manipulation of results in football. The investigation reveals that Tolentino would have transferred significant amounts of money to athletes involved in the scheme, including Luiz Henrique, Botafogo player. The report will be read and voted on the commission on Tuesday (10). The information is from G1 and from UOL.

Requests for indictment will have concrete effects only if they are accepted by the Public Prosecution Service and, later, by the court.

In addition to Tolentino, the report also calls for the indictment of businessman William Pereira Rogatto, known as the “King of Relegation”, who was arrested by Interpol in Dubai on November 8. The third indictment is by Thiago Chambó Andrade, another businessman investigated by the Goiás Public Prosecutor’s Operation Maximum penalty, which is accused of cooperating players to handle matches. Chambó is also arrested.

The investigations revealed that Bruno Tolentino made a suspicious transfer of $ 30,000 to Luiz Henrique, shortly after the player receives a yellow card during a match of the Spanish Championship. Tolentino’s financial movement, which includes 258 bank transactions, raised suspicions about the origin of resources, which seem incompatible with their declared assets. In addition, the investigation points out that family members of Lucas Paquetá, including his brother, are also involved in the scheme.

Not only does CPI ask for the indictment of those involved, but also suggests changes in legislation to reinforce the fight against sports manipulation. Recommendations include increased sentences for fraud at sporting events, the criminal typification of “betting fraud” and the obligation that betting houses will tell users about betting risks.

Finally, the report requests that the Ministry of Finance acts as an supervisory agent and that the competent bodies seek to improve the forms of combating manipulation. The CPI also asks Brazil to add to the International Macolin Convention, which deals with the fight against the manipulation of sports results, aiming to protect the integrity of sports in the country.
