Cuba frees perpetrator of Havana bomb attacks after 27 years in prison

Cuba released, on Monday (31), Salvadoran Raúl Ernesto Cruz León, one of the perpetrators of a series of bomb attacks in Havana hotels in 1997, after serving 27 years in prison, local media reported.
“Today (Monday), after serving his sentence, Cruz León was released, demonstrating that Cuba respects its laws and guarantees justice, even for those who have committed serious crimes,” stated the official Cubadebate portal.
Cruz León was sentenced in 1999 to the death penalty for the crime of “continued terrorism”, a sentence that was commuted by the Cuban Supreme Court in 2010 to 30 years in prison.
