Flu vaccine will be available all year for children, elderly and pregnant women

The Ministry of Health has announced that, from now on, the influenza vaccine, a flu virus, is part of the national vaccination calendar for 6 -month -old children to under 6, pregnant and elderly from 60 years of age. The immunizer will be available in all vaccine rooms in the country from the second in March. Until then, the immunizer supply was restricted to seasonal campaigns.
According to pediatrician Monica Levi, president of the Brazilian Society of Immunization (SBIM), the measure is important because outbreaks of flu are not restricted to just one time of year. “The flu is characterized by an unpredictability. So, although we have more cases in autumn and winter, outbreaks also happen throughout the year, sporadically,” he says. The announcement was made last Friday.
She adds that making the vaccine available to those who have not taken it in the recommended period gives the opportunity for this individual to protect themselves and also helps to prevent the impact of any outbreak.
