Government authorizes 137 betting brands to operate in Brazil from this Wednesday

The Ministry of Finance published in the Official Gazette of the Union the list of 137 brands authorized to operate in the regulated betting market, which will be officially opened this Wednesday (1st). Between the companies, each can operate up to three betting platforms.

Among the well-known brands, Betano and the three Caixa Econômica Federal brands were not licensed, but obtained provisional permissions.
The Treasury estimates that it can raise R$2.1 billion with the grants of the first 67 requests, each worth R$30 million. In total, 271 companies requested licenses, but 36 did not meet the technical and compliance criteria, being able to rectify the documentation within 150 days.

Companies that are unable to regularize their documentation will be left out of the regulated market. Furthermore, websites without authorization from the Union will be operating illegally from January 1st, and some bookmakers have already signaled the possibility of seeking justice to continue their activities.
Authorized portals must follow a series of rules, including paying a fee of 12.5% on gross monthly revenue and implementing measures against compulsive gambling. Supervision will be the responsibility of the Prizes and Betting Secretariat, which may impose significant fines in case of non-compliance with the established rules.
