International Transparency criticizes lack of access to information about Janja

International Transparency Brazil expressed its concern about the absence of public information about the first lady, Rosângela Lula da Silva, known as Janja, after the Lula government refuses to respond to information requests made by media and civil organizations, as The Blog of Journalist Malu Gaspar, from the newspaper The globeand the NGO know.

Bruno Brandão, executive director of International Transparency Brazil, highlighted in his social networks that Janja “is exercising public function”, which, according to him, requires due formalization and publicity of his activities.

The director of the entity stated that the lack of information about the agenda and the responsibilities of the first lady contradicts fundamental principles of public administration, such as the Law on Access to Information and the Conflict Law of Interest. He argued that informality around the role of Janja makes the situation even more worrying.

Malu Gaspar’s column stated that in December last year, the Presidency of the Republic requested the agenda of Janja commitments, including details about events and minutes of meetings. However, the Civil House denied the request, claiming that the first lady does not hold a public office. The negative generated a feature from the blog, which still awaits an official response.

In March and April 2024, the NGO stay knowing had already requested detailed information about the Janja Agenda, as well as data on its support team. At the time, the Civil House also refused to provide this information, reiterating the position that the first lady has no public dissemination obligations, given her unofficial condition.
