An Israeli air strike in Khan Youis in southern Gaza killed today Salah al-Bardaweel, Hamas’s political leader. The information is from Reuters agency, based on reports from Hamas authorities.

What happened

  • The wife of Hamas’s political leader also died in the attack. “His blood, that of his wife and martyrs will remain feeding the battle of liberation and independence. The criminal enemy will not break our determination and will,” the group said.
  • The resumption of bombing in Gaza pressures Hamas to release Israeli hostages. Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of Israel, promised to “act against Hamas with increasing military force” as long as the hostages remain in Gaza.
  • At least 130 Palestinians were killed in attacks by Israel in the last 48 hours that preceded the new bombing that killed Salah al-Bardaweel and his wife. Another 263 Palestinians were injured in the previous attacks.
