Kassab leaves Tarcísio government to focus on PSD articulation in 2026
The Secretary of Government and Institutional Relations of São Paulo, Gilberto Kassab, announced this Wednesday (25) that he will leave his position in the government of Tarcísio de Freitas.
The decision comes amid the intensification of the political agenda for the 2026 elections, in which Kassab serves as national president of the PSD.
The departure was announced by Kassab himself, who pointed out the incompatibility between the role in the state Executive and party demands in an election year.
“In view of the intense activities in the partisan and electoral fields that appear in the 2026 political calendar, with elections for president, governors, senators and deputies in October, my role as Secretary of Government and Institutional Relations of the State of São Paulo becomes incompatible with my political and electoral activity during this period”, he wrote in an official statement.

The movement repositions Kassab at the center of the PSD’s national articulation at a time of defining candidacies and alliances. The party seeks to expand its role in the presidential dispute and also consolidate regional platforms, which requires direct action from the national leadership.
Kassab was part of the secretariat since the beginning of Tarcísio’s administration and was responsible for the political dialogue between the São Paulo government and the Legislative Assembly and other institutional actors.
When announcing his departure, he highlighted his participation in the team since the beginning of his term. “In this way, I leave the secretariat of Governor Tarcísio de Freitas, who I had the honor of being part of since the first day of his term”, he stated.
