Rui Costa, about big techs: let's call authorities so that “the law is complied with”

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva appointed his ministers and reaffirmed the power of the head of the Civil House, Rui Costa, over the ministries’ normative acts.

The statement comes days after the government suffered one of its biggest losses due to rumors spread by the opposition that the Executive would tax Pix – the statements were based on an act by the Federal Revenue Service to increase oversight of transactions.

As shown by the Estadão/Broadcastthe case placed the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, in a moment of weakness within the government.

“From now on, it’s dedication. More than you’ve ever had. From now on, no minister will be able to issue an ordinance that creates confusion for us without this ordinance passing through the Presidency of the Republic through the Civil House. We often think it’s nothing, but someone makes an ordinance, does some business, and soon it blows up and ends up becoming the Presidency of the Republic,” Lula told his ministers.

The president holds a ministerial meeting at Granja do Torto, a kind of country house for the Presidency of the Republic.

The opening speech of the meeting, given by the PT member, was broadcast. Lula mentioned that Haddad would also speak about economic figures and that other ministers, such as Rui Costa, Sidônio Palmeira (Social Communication) and Alexandre Padilha (Institutional Relations) would also speak to the top echelon of the government.
