Lula's election and his inauguration were decisive for tax reform, says Pacheco

The President of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG)said this Thursday (16) that the election of the president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) It was “decisive” for the approval of the tax reform and its regulation, today sanctioned by the President of the Republic at the Palácio do Planalto.

“The election of President Lula, his inauguration and his prioritization of tax reform were decisive so that today we are exhausting this great journey of decades”, stated the senator.

Representing Congress, Pacheco said that the reform was possible “due to the reciprocal understanding of the Chamber and Senate” and because “society understood that the current system could no longer prevail”.

The reform regulations were approved at the end of last year, in two rounds, by the Chamber and the Senate. The final vote took place in the Chamber, and deputies overturned most of the changes made by senators

Defense of democracy

In his speech at the ceremony to sanction the complementary law regulating the tax reform, Pacheco praised Lula for defending democracy and made several nods to the PT member, saying that “the defense of democracy brought us together”. He also stated that “the truth always prevails, and it prevailed in tax reform”.

The senator, who is leaving the presidency of the Senate, said he was proud that it was his “last act (in office) on this long journey of tax reform to hand it over to President Lula for sanction”.
