Lula’s plane broke down and flew over Mexico for 4h30 with just one engine
Moments later, it was up to a lieutenant colonel who always accompanies the president to inform the passengers of the problem.
The initial estimate was that they would fly for two hours, before returning to Mexico City. But the decision was to increase fuel consumption.
Among the members of the delegation, one of the possibilities raised was that the problem was caused by a collision with a bird, shortly after takeoff. Another possibility would be the loosening of a part in one of the engines. The FAB (Brazilian Air Force), however, insists that investigations will be carried out from now on, only with the plane on the ground.
Lula, who purchased the plane in 2005, had traveled to Mexico for Claudia Sheinbaum’s inauguration as president. This Tuesday (1st), he left the Mexican city towards Brasília. But the plane, which has already been criticized by the president himself, experienced technical problems shortly after takeoff.
The pilot’s choice was to return to Mexico City. But, to carry out the landing, it was necessary to reduce the weight of the aircraft first.
In 2023, Lula requested that the Air Force carry out an assessment to replace the plane, or carry out a renovation of the FAB’s Airbus A330, another presidential jet.
