Missiles could force Russia to negotiate peace, says US diplomatic leader

US long-range missiles change ‘rules of the game’ for Ukraine, Ukrainian foreign minister declares. “(US authorization) could change the rules of the game. The longer Ukraine can attack, the shorter the war will be,” the country’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiga told reporters ahead of a Council of UN security on the occasion of the 1,000th day of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
On the same day, the Russian government stated that the US decision would escalate the conflict. “The use of long-range missiles by Kiev to attack our territory would mean the direct involvement of the United States and its allies in hostilities against Russia, and a radical change in the essence and nature of the conflict. (…) Kiev’s response Russia in this case will be appropriate and will make itself felt,” Russian diplomacy spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told AFP.
US authorization “will not change anything” Moscow’s strategy, said chairman of the defense committee of the lower house of the Russian Parliament. Also on Monday, Andrei Kartapolov told the state agency Ria Novosti that the objectives set by Russian President Vladimir Putin in Ukraine “will be achieved.” He said that to combat long-range missiles it would be necessary to “prevent planes from taking off.”
We are focusing on this task. This is a priority, because if a plane doesn’t take off, the missile won’t be launched. Although the Ukrainians claim to target military targets, they often target cities and populated areas, which is a real risk.

Kartapolov also warned of the risk of world war and said that “Russia’s response will be immediate.” “But this is still an unprecedented and very important decision to start the Third World War. The Americans will do so on the impulse of an ‘old man’ (Joe Biden) who is about to leave office and will no longer be responsible for nothing in two months”, he added.
Ukrainian president spoke about the importance of “long-range capability” for his Army. He recalled, however, that military operations “are not announced”, according to RFI.
