On the PF’s operating day, Lula cancels the press conference after the end of the G20

The president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) will no longer speak to the press this Tuesday (19), the closing day of the G20 Leaders Summit, in Rio de Janeiro (RJ).
The G20 is the group made up of the 19 largest economies in the world, plus the European Union and the African Union. Lula was the host of this year’s meeting, as Brazil holds the temporary presidency of the bloc.
Also this Tuesday, the Federal Police (PF) launched Operation Countercoup, targeting an alleged criminal organization that had planned a coup d’état in Brazil to prevent the inauguration of Lula, elected in 2022.
According to PF investigations, the criminal group had the objective of preventing Lula’s inauguration and had even articulated a plan to assassinate the PT member, the vice-president. Geraldo Alckmin (PSB) and the minister Alexandre de Moraesfrom the Supreme Court.
Amnesty is “unthinkable”, says Gilmar Mendes after PF operation on coup plot
“It is extremely serious because it involves members of the Armed Forces. Everything indicates the participation of high-ranking military personnel”, stated the Supreme Minister about Operation Countercoup, launched by the PF
Lula’s interview, after the end of the G20 summit, was scheduled for 5:30 pm. Brazilian journalists and those from the international press were already in position to listen to the President of the Republic, but, at around 4:50 pm, Planalto’s press office informed that the press conference had been cancelled.
Officially, at least until now, the Presidency of the Republic has not stated the reasons for canceling Lula’s interview. Unofficially, however, the argument is that Lula had a series of meetings and commitments during the afternoon, and the agendas would have overlapped, delaying the schedule.
This Tuesday, after the closing session of the Leaders’ Summit and the transmission of the G20 presidency from Brazil to South Africa, Lula had lunch with the President of the United States, Joe Biden.

According to an investigation by the Federal Police, soldiers used code names in reference to countries, such as Germany, Austria, Japan and Ghana, to “not reveal their true identities”
In the afternoon, the Brazilian president would also meet with the Prime Minister of Japan, Shigeru Ishiba; UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer; and the director general of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
Behind the scenes, the information is that Lula would not like to comment on the PF operation on the criminal organization that allegedly planned his murder. The president’s assessment is that the matter could, in some way, cover up the repercussions of the G20 summit, considered highly positive by the Brazilian government. As it would be practically impossible to avoid questions about the PF operation, Lula would have chosen not to grant the interview.
Lula’s departure back to Brasília (DF) is scheduled for 6:15 pm, according to the Presidency’s official schedule. The president is expected to arrive in the federal capital at 7:40 pm.

Coup plot: military surrounded Moraes’ residence, but gave up on arresting him
The investigators concluded that the accused had the objective of arresting Minister Alexandre de Moraes, but the plan was canceled at the last minute, after the postponement of a session of the Federal Supreme Court.
Operation Countercoup
The investigations involving Operation Contragolpe are related to a broader investigation by the PF into the alleged activities of a criminal organization along 5 axes:
1) Virtual attacks on opponents;
2) Attacks on institutions (such as the Federal Supreme Court and the Superior Electoral Court), the electronic voting system and the health of the electoral process;
3) Attempted Coup d’état and violent abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law;
4) Attacks on vaccines against Covid-19 and health measures in the pandemic and;
5) Use of the State structure to obtain advantages, with the use of fund supplies (corporate cards) to pay personal expenses, insertion of false vaccination data against Covid-19 in the Ministry of Health systems, and diversion of assets from high asset value handed over by foreign authorities and subsequent concealment.

Operation Counterattack: See Moraes’ decision that authorized the arrest of “black kids”
Investigations point to an alleged plan to execute a coup d’état to prevent the inauguration of a new government and the murders of Lula, Alckmin and Moraes
The operation is related to axis 3: “Attempted Coup d’état and violent Abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law”.
According to investigators, illicit operational actions were carried out by military personnel trained in the Army’s Special Forces (FE) (the so-called “black kids”). Initially, the idea was to monitor the activities of Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF, for later “execution of his illegal arrest and possible murder”.
Reports indicate that such monitoring would have started shortly after the meeting, held on November 12, 2022, at the residence of Walter Braga Netto, former Minister of Defense and the Civil House in the Bolsonaro administration.
Also in the plans were the murders of Lula and Alckmin, newly elected at the time, in an attempt to prevent the new government from taking office.
According to the PF, the moves to consummate a Coup d’Etat peaked between November and December 2022 and were named “2022 World Cup” by those involved.
The evidence was identified based on the analysis of data from the cell phone seized from Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid, Bolsonaro’s former aide-de-camp, and exchanges of messages with Marcelo Câmara, Bolsonaro’s former advisor, who joined the investigation into alleged embezzlement of jewelry received by the politician during his term in office.
