Federal civil servants told AFP that they were advised not to respond immediately.

This Sunday, the Defense Department published a note asking its staff to “pause any response” to the OPM email with the subject “What did you do last week?”

“The Department of Defense is responsible for reviewing the performance of its staff and will perform any review according to its own procedures,” this entity said in an X publication.

According to local press, employees appointed by the Trump government at the FBI (Federal Police), the State Department and the National Intelligence Office also instructed their members not to answer for now.

Kash Patel, FBI’s new director, sent a message to his employees on Saturday saying, “The FBI, through the director’s office, is in charge of all review processes,” wrote The New York Times.

The unions also responded quickly. The American Federation of Governmental Employees (AFGE), the largest union of the American public service, promised to contest any illegal resignation.
