Sheinbaum rules out ‘tariff war’ with US after conversation with Trump
According to a message from Trump published on his network, Truth Social, the Mexican president “agreed to contain migration through Mexico to the United States, effectively closing the southern border.”
Shortly afterwards, Sheinbaum refuted this statement in a message on X. She explained to Trump “the comprehensive strategy that Mexico has followed to deal with the migratory phenomenon (…) We reiterate that Mexico’s stance is not to close the borders”, highlighted.
This Thursday, the president closed the matter before the press.
“I can guarantee you, I am certain that we would never, ever – we would be unable -, consider closing the border to the north (…) Of course we do not agree with that”, he reiterated.
Sheinbaum sent a letter to the tycoon on Tuesday warning him that migration and drug use will not be resolved “with threats” and that if the United States imposes tariffs, Mexico will adopt a similar measure.
– Concern about fentanyl –
Trump also expressed concern about the fentanyl crisis gripping the United States, as reported by Sheinbaum, and asked whether Mexico faced a similar problem.
