Tebet once again defends government spending cuts: “There is no social without fiscal”

The Minister of Planning and Budget, Simone Tebet (MDB)stated, this Monday (28), in São Paulo (SP), that the current moment requires courage to cut spending on inefficient public policies.
When participating in the 7th Brazil Investment Forum, Tebet said that it is necessary to balance public accounts to enable programs that can improve the lives of Brazilians.
“There is no social system without a inspector”, stated the minister. “The numbers are there showing that everything that had to work, did. There’s only one thing missing: having the courage to cut what’s inefficient. Errors and fraud have already been cut in 2023 because they came as a result of the pandemic. Now it is time to put an end to insufficient and inefficient public policies so that we can make, not a surplus, but the necessary investments, including in infrastructure. As a major media outlet recently recalled, investment in the country needs to be doubled and, for that, we need partnerships”, highlighted Tebet.
During the event, the minister also said that, in addition to cutting expenses, Brazil needs to encourage private investment. “Public investment alone is insufficient. We, from countries considered emerging, are well below the investment average. We will only be able to leverage this by doing our homework, as we are doing, ensuring legal security and stability”, he stated.
During the forum, the minister signed a memorandum of understanding with the Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil).
According to ApexBrasil, the objective of the memorandum is to promote and publicize the initiative of the five South American Integration and Development Routes. The routes aim to encourage and reinforce Brazil’s trade with South American countries and reduce the time and cost of transporting goods between Brazil and its neighbors and Asia.
“We will take advantage of Apex’s expertise to do what we effectively need for Brazil. We have a unique window of opportunity. We are in the right place and at the right time”, said the minister. “(We will) carry out regional integration in South America to reduce regional inequalities. We will not end poverty and reduce social inequality if we do not reduce regional inequalities in Brazil”, he highlighted.
