Two years of 8/1 will have Lula, Moraes, Lira and Pacheco in “Hug for Democracy”

The president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will participate, next Wednesday (8), in an official ceremony at Palácio do Planalto and in a symbolic event at Praça dos Três Poderes to mark two years since the attacks on the headquarters of the Três Poderes, which took place on January 8, 2023.

The event will be divided into two main moments, highlighting both the recovery of public assets and social mobilization in defense of democracy.

The ceremony at Planalto will be attended by authorities such as the presidents of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Luís Roberto Barrosoand the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), Alexandre de Moraesin addition to governors and leaders of the National Congress, including the presidents of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL)and the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG).

During the event, 21 works of art will be presented that were restored after suffering damage during the attacks. Among them, the historic clock brought to Brazil by Dom João VI, which was restored in Switzerland at no cost to the Brazilian government, and the painting As Mulatas, by Di Cavalcanti, which will be reopened in the Salão Nobre do Planalto.

The delivery of the painting will be accompanied by an educational activity, in which students from the Heritage Education Project will deliver replicas of the work and other restored pieces to President Lula.

After the ceremony at Planalto, the president, accompanied by the authorities present, will walk down the Palace ramp to participate in the symbolic event Embrace for Democracy at Praça dos Três Poderes.

The mobilization is being organized by the Frente Brasil Popular and should bring together around a thousand people, including members of left-wing parties, such as PT, PCdoB and PV, as well as trade union centrals and representative entities such as CUT (Central Única dos Trabalhadores), CNBB ( National Conference of Brazilian Bishops) and OAB (Brazilian Bar Association).
