University nest egg should be launched in 2025, says minister
The Minister of Education, Camilo Santana, said in an interview with the newspaper The Globe which plans to launch the university Nest Egg next year to provide financial support to low-income higher education students.
According to the minister, the program will follow the same model as the initiative aimed at high school.
Amid discussions about restricting the use of cell phones in schools, a proposal that has the support of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Santana defended the use of the device for pedagogical purposes.
The minister also commented that the government needs to do smarter work, identify and unite (policy) more with ProUni.
According to him, there are students who abandon the course because sometimes they have nowhere to live.
With this, Santana said he is starting to build a nest egg for university students, a proposal to be discussed with the president. “We can identify where the bottlenecks are, the difficulties in ensuring that this student can fulfill their dream of going to university”, he adds.
