US will send anti-missile system to Israel in the face of threat from Iran
To face this threat, Israel already has a series of air defense systems. Among them are the Iron Dome, David’s Slingshot and the Arrow.
These systems have been instrumental in intercepting the majority of projectiles fired at the country since October 2023. This way, it is possible to minimize damage and protect densely populated areas, according to the newspapers India Today and Times of Israel.
The Iron Dome is an air defense system developed by Israel to intercept short-range rockets and missiles. The system operates using radars that detect the launch of enemy projectiles and calculate their trajectories. If the projectile is aimed at a populated area, the system fires an interceptor missile, which destroys the projectile in the air.
The Arrow missile system is designed to intercept long-range ballistic missiles. It has two main versions: Arrow 2 (Arrow-2) and Arrow 3 (Arrow-3), which work together to ensure protection against aerial threats at varying distances.
David’s Sling is a missile defense system developed to intercept medium and long-range projectiles, such as tactical and cruise ballistic missiles. It works using “hit-to-kill” technology, which means the system launches interceptor missiles that directly hit the threat, destroying it through physical impact, rather than using an explosion to neutralize it. It offers protection against threats that have a range between 40 km and 300 km.
