Venezuelan immigrant is convicted of murder reported by Trump

A Venezuelan immigrant illegally staying in the United States was sentenced this Wednesday to life in prison for the murder of a student, a case that Donald Trump publicized during his election campaign, as part of his rhetoric against immigration.
“Justice for Laken Riley!”, the president-elect posted on his social network, after the verdict was announced. “It’s time to secure our border and expel these criminals from our country so that something like this doesn’t happen again.”
A Georgia state judge found Venezuelan José Antonio Ibarra, 26, guilty on 10 charges, including murder and aggravated assault with intent to rape Laken, a 22-year-old nursing student who had gone for a run one morning in February and whose body was found on the University of Georgia campus.
